About Dr. Cody Commander
Cody Commander, Psy.D., HSP
Dr. Cody Commander is the owner of Commanding Performance: Sport & Psychological Services. Additionally, he is also a Clinical & Sport Psychologist for the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department. Dr. Commander has been working with performers and junior to professional athletes since 2001. His experience as a collegiate athlete, coach, and professional psychologist gives him a powerful set of skills to help individuals and teams perform at optimal levels of performance.
Dr. Commander received his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He spent his last year completing his pre-doctoral internship at Ball State University Counseling Center, working with students and student-athletes. He has worked in the clinical setting since 2003, working with people with various mental health disorders. Areas of clinical focus include working with individuals experiencing relational distress, anxiety and panic disorders, depressive disorders, ADHD and learning disabilities, mood disorders related to medical reasons, eating disorders, trauma survivors, PTSD, and issues with self-esteem.
Prior to his time at Wright State University, Dr. Commander received his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU). He competed on the SOSU men’s tennis team and held leadership positions in several student organizations.
